This past Sunday, my friends and I decided to meet up for lunch at one of my favourite markets, Root 44. It’s situated in the heart of the Winelands, 8,7km outside Stellenbosh, on the R44 towards Somerset West.
This is one of the biggest markets in the Western Cape, buzzing with people every weekend. There’s an amazing vibe, with live music setting the mood for a joyful afternoon. The market suits young and old, people with children and even the four legged babies are allowed to come with.
Food and drinks
When entering the food tent, you’re overwhelmed by different aromas and your senses literally go haywire. I’ve learned to take a slow walk through all the food stalls and only then I’ll try to make a decision. They honestly cater for everyone, with options of pulled pork burgers, pizza, fish and chips, sushi, curries and smoothies for the fitness fanatics.
They have a wide selection of vendors, with different products. They’ve recently added another tent with furniture, which again brings a cool element to the market.
If you love good food, wine and a “lekker” vibe, I suggest you make your way there to check it out this weekend. They’re open Saturdays and Sundays 10:00-16:00 come rain or sunshine. For more info on the market, visit there website.
